WavePointer on the Jungfraujoch
Europe's highest railroad station, the Jungfraujoch, is now additionally using WavePointer beacons in a POI information system for visitors.
Few records last 100 years. But the train station on the Jungfraujoch in the Swiss Bernese Oberland is and remains one: the highest train station in Europe - even a good century after its maiden voyage in 1912. The train terminal is located at 3,454 meters above sea level, in the middle of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch". From Kleine Scheidegg, the rack railroad travels steeply up the tunnel to the Jungfraujoch all year round. Seven kilometers long is the tunnel from Eigergletscher station, which was built from 1896 to 1912. A stop in the mountain tunnel allows a spectacular view through windows from the Eiger north face and into the glacier world. At the summit, visitors discover a high alpine wonderland of ice, snow and rock. This wonder world can be admired from the viewing platforms "Sphinx" and "Plateau", on the Aletsch Glacier or in the "Ice Palace". Since the opening of the "Eiger Express" on December 5, 2020, the Jungfrau Railways' V-Bahn project has been completed, enabling the journey from Interlaken to the Jungfraujoch in just one and a half hours. From the terminal in Grindelwald, a 3S train takes you directly to the Eiger Glacier in 15 minutes. Once at the top, there is even more time to enjoy the panorama and the world of experiences.
Unique ice palace and adventure tour
The ice palace is located in the middle of the Jungfraufirn 20 meters below the viewing plateau. At this watershed of Europe, the ice masses pile up, slowly migrating northward, and their waters will one day flow into the German North Sea. In the 1930s, two mountain guides had begun to cut an enormous underground hall out of the glacier ice. On a mirror-smooth tour, visitors can not only discover a frosty cave world, but also examine lovingly created figures made of ice. Another alpine sensation is a 250-meter-long adventure tour that creates a direct link from the Sphinx Hall to the Ice Palace. Roller conveyors take visitors up the steep parts. A special highlight are the adventure niches, in which the development of tourism in the Alps and the history of the Jungfrau Railway are staged. The adventure tour tells of Adolf Guyer-Zeller's great idea and the extreme efforts made during the historic construction of the Jungfrau Railway.
WavePointer combines digital advantages with the physical world
The Jungfrau Railways have decided to make the Jungfraujoch experience even more modern and memorable for visitors from winter 2023/24. WavePointer beacons will be used for this purpose. A large number of these small, robust high-tech devices will be placed at selected positions in the indoor and outdoor areas of the Jungfraujoch, so-called point-of-interests (POIs). At these locations, visitors - most of whom are international - will receive precise information on their cell phones, usually in their native language. Supplementary video reports or podcasts provide many additional and lasting additions to the exhibition, surrounding mountains and history of the Jungfraujoch. This digital content can also be saved by visitors or shared with friends.

Über Jungfrau Bahnen
Im Jahr 1912 wurde die Jungfraubahn eröffnet, ein Pionierwerk unter den Bergbahnen. Die Zahnradbahn befördert Gäste von der Kleinen Scheidegg auf das Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe, das sich auf 3454 Meter über Meer in einer Welt aus Fels, Eis und Schnee befindet. Die Reise führt zum höchstgelegenen Bahnhof Europas. Von der neun Kilometer langen Strecke liegen 7.3 Kilometer im Tunnel, wobei die Bahn die Berge Eiger und Mönch durchquert. Bei der Zwischenstation Eismeer halten die Züge fünf Minuten lang und die Besucher können durch Aussichtsfenster die faszinierende Bergwelt bewundern. Die Jungfraubahn überwindet 1400 Höhenmeter. Eine Fahrt dauert 35 Minuten.
Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe heute
Die Jungfraubahn fährt noch heute, mehr als 100 Jahre nach Inbetriebnahme, auf der gleichen Strecke zur Station Eigergletscher und durch den 7,3 km langen Tunnel zum Jungfraujoch. Sonst erinnert aber nicht mehr viel an die Gründungszeit. Modernes Rollmaterial bringt den Fahrgast in wesentlich kürzerer Zeit zum mittlerweile weltbekannten Ausflugsziel Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe. Dauerte die Fahrt 1912 noch 1 ¼ Stunden, beträgt die Fahrzeit heute nur noch 25 Minuten. Auf der 1996 neu gestalteten Sphinxterrasse erwartet den Gast eine unvergleichliche Aussicht auf das hochalpine Aletschgebiet und das Schweizer Mittelland. Der grösste Eispalast der Alpen bietet einen intensiven Einblick ins Innere des Gletschers. Der «Snow-Fun-Park» und die hochwertige Inszenierung «Alpine Sensation» - rund um die Geschichte des Baus der Jungfraubahn - sind weitere Attraktionen, welche einen Ausflug zum Jungfraujoch lohnenswert machen. Für ein vielfältiges kulinarisches Angebot sorgen vier moderne Restaurants und zwei Bars.
